Dear Roseburg community,
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying these first few weeks of autumn. The school year is off to a great start, and students are settling into their routines and learning with enthusiasm. Each school year brings a fresh opportunity to celebrate their incredible talents, ideas and hearts. Our students are the future of this community, and I appreciate your ongoing support as they work toward success.
From our high school students honoring veterans at last Friday’s football game, to eighth-graders guiding sixth-graders into the world of middle school, to elementary school students celebrating kindness, our students help build the foundation of a successful community. Students are not only preparing for tomorrow, they are already shaping our community today as neighbors, leaders, employees, volunteers, artists and more. I am deeply grateful for everything they contribute to Roseburg.
Our goal as a school district is to help every student find a path to a successful future. We continue to expand our career pathway offerings in partnership with Umpqua Community College to increase opportunities. Advanced medical, fire science and entrepreneurship pathways are examples that allow students to earn college credits at Roseburg High School, achieving certifications or getting a head start on degrees at UCC. We’re working with industry partners to build these pathways to meet local workforce needs. It’s a win-win for our students, families and businesses.
These pathways are guiding students directly into the local workforce, reducing student debt, providing family-wage jobs and filling real demands for local services like healthcare. We want to ensure that our students have the opportunities they need to remain in Roseburg, where they will raise the next generation and continue to build a thriving community.
There are so many wonderful things going on in our schools every day. I invite you to be a part of it by following our social media pages, volunteering in a classroom, attending a School Board meeting, or catching one of our games or school concerts this fall. Our students’ spirit and enthusiasm are contagious, and their presence offers the kind of inspiration we can all benefit from.
Our schools and our students are a shared treasure that enriches us all. When a community lifts up its youth, it is also lifting its future. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in building a thriving future for our students and our community.
Sincerely,
Jared Cordon
